Why is the Mushroom Kingdom's currency so horrible compared to the Beanbean Kingdom's?
The fact that it is means either two things:
Beanbean Kingdom is very affluent and Mushroom Kingdom coin is below average.
Mushroom Kingdom is extremely poor and Beanbean Kingdom is average-ish.
When you take into account how little the Mushroom Kingdom coin is actually worth, it puts a different spin on situations. Kent C. Koopa, rather than being a greedy tollman, is just a big-boned beggar looking for coins for survival. Of course he's still a jerk, but he has to pay for that expensive imported glasses prescription somehow. Only glasses like that can make his eyesight good, for there almost are no good glasses in the Mushroom Kingdom.
That ridiculously expensive shop in Toad Town in Bowser's Inside Story for exclusive members? They are savvy of other kingdoms and their currency rates and so they're tryin' to be competitively viable. Oh, of course, Bowser feels ashamed to be usin' Mushroom currency throughout the game.
Speakin' of BIS, notice how there are no stores in the game available except for the Block guy's, which is in the Mushroom Kingdom, and Toad Town's. And the Toad shop inside Bowser. But that has hero discounts.
It seems the rest of the Kingdom is selling at very, very low prices. This could explain the presence of the Pianta Mafia in Rogueport, a prime example of the massive poverty in the Kingdom. Basically they exploit people to death with their very expensive casino. They, of course, don't originally come from the Mushroom Kingdom. It also explains that mugger at the start of the game.
Discuss. It's an open-ended discussion.
And if we can somehow link this to Mari0 it'd be great material.
