what is mafia? hurt gumshoe heal Kay Ask Othin/Roy for a detailed explanation. Heal Gumshoe hurt Kay. No need for all that. We can just use the all-purpose Othin explanation that everyone uses. --- Say the game starts with 20 players. Around 5 of those players are in the mafia, while the other 15 are citizens. At the beginning of the game, the mafia members choose a citizen to kill. Afterwards, it's the "day phase", and the remaining players try to figure out who the mafia are. They do that by looking at clues provided in various ways by the GM and by the actions of the players themselves. Each player then casts a vote on a member they think is in the mafia. At the end of the day phase, whoever has the most votes is killed, and the players find out whether or not the player killed was really in the mafia. The day phase typically ends when a majority is reached for one player; in this example, 19 players would be alive at the time, so 10 votes would be a majority. Afterwards, the game shifts to the "night phase" and the mafia choose someone else to kill. The game continues until either the mafia are all killed, in which case the citizens win, or the mafia outnumber the citizens, in which case the mafia wins. That's the basic gist of it, but there's usually a bit more to it than that. For example, almost all games have a Detective, who is a citizen with the ability to find out the role of one other player each night phase. There are also sometimes "3rd party" roles that act independently from either the citizens or the mafia, trying to win their own way, but they'll be explained as they become relevant. Or not, if they're secret, but in that case, you don't have to worry about them anyway. --- Heal Gumshoe, hurt Maggey.

Heal Gumshoe, hurt Kay.
Yeah I sort of expected him to post his generic explanation.
On an unrelated note but I wanted to post this somewhere, I'm making slow and steady progress on Chapter 17. Focus is on the Captain for most of the chapter, OBVIOUSLY. At this point in writing he's PROMOTED and level 4, to boot. His stats are basically like Jarod's except for the massive luck difference.
