I already knew that I would like Galaxy 2 just as less as I do with Galaxy 1 when it was first released and Miyamoto said he would put 0 effort into story, but I just got my issue of NP today and...
"you might even reach a secret pipe that leads to a junk-cleaning robot (who fans might remember from the first Super [Mari0] Galaxy); if you accept his challenge" (Nintendo Power Volume 254, pg. 51).
...No. Never again. That stupid trash minigame. Fuck. Miyamoto. And. His. Fucking. Obsession. With. That. Fucking. Robot.

Actually, Rawk and I are having an interesting conversation right now.
RawkHawk2010 (5:23:25 PM): Wait. RawkHawk2010 (5:23:32 PM): So you're really not getting SMG2? Nintendork 13 13 (5:23:35 PM): Yeah. RawkHawk2010 (5:25:31 PM): Can't blame you. RawkHawk2010 (5:27:30 PM): The ONLY reason the first one was any good was because it was novel. Nintendork 13 13 (5:27:46 PM): Mm. Nintendork 13 13 (5:28:01 PM): ...I'm pretty sure I don't hold ANY of the 3D Mari0s highly. RawkHawk2010 (5:28:12 PM): I hold Sunshine highly. Nintendork 13 13 (5:28:27 PM): I don't. I don't have fond memories of SM64. I despise Galaxy for the trash shit. Nintendork 13 13 (5:28:38 PM): ...SM64 was okay. Nintendork 13 13 (5:28:58 PM): But not 'highly'. Nintendork 13 13 (5:30:41 PM): If someone asks me wot I like about SM64, I wouldn't be able to answer. Nintendork 13 13 (5:30:50 PM): ...Which probably means I don't like it. RawkHawk2010 (5:31:04 PM): Miyamoto knew better than to make a SM64 2. Nintendork 13 13 (5:31:38 PM): You're defending him on something? Nintendork 13 13 (5:33:09 PM): Hell, I think the only reason I continue to follow the Mari0 series is because of the RPGs. Nintendork 13 13 (5:33:10 PM): <.<; RawkHawk2010 (5:34:06 PM): Same. RawkHawk2010 (5:34:17 PM): I'm not defending him. RawkHawk2010 (5:34:24 PM): I'm saying he's gotten worse over time. RawkHawk2010 (5:34:40 PM): From someone who tried to keep things fresh to a sequelizing whore. Nintendork 13 13 (5:35:05 PM): Mmm. Nintendork 13 13 (5:35:18 PM): ...Why can't the fucker make a sequal to Yoshi's Island? Nintendork 13 13 (5:35:24 PM): *sequel RawkHawk2010 (5:35:26 PM): I still believe NSMBW was absolute SHIT. Nintendork 13 13 (5:35:29 PM): ...Uh, not made by Artoon. Nintendork 13 13 (5:35:36 PM): I never bought NSMBWii. RawkHawk2010 (5:35:37 PM): I have the damn game.

The think that irks me most about Galaxy 2 is Miyamoto's clear intention of making the 3D Mari0s more like the sidescrolling games.
They're two different kinds of games with two different kinds of merits.
Those screenshots of the sidescrolling "classic" style levels are what bothers me most because it proves me right on two counts. 1. NSMBW didn't need to look like a DS game. It could've looked nice and still achieved the "lofty" goal of being a sidescroller, but no, people had to go and say "HEY, HUNGRYWTF UR WONRG." But that's a dead argument that doesn't really matter. 2. JESUS CHRIST, WE JUST GOT NSMBW. YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THAT. It's clearly an attempt at "bridging the gap."
"Bridging the gap" being something I fondly know as removing everything I liked about 3D Mari0 games. I guess the days of exploration are gone... Fuck, leave 3D Mari0 alone you senile fool!
In other news, I actually liked NSMBW. Probably not for the reasons I should have, but I thought the multiplayer was a lot of fun. I think it's something they honestly did right (though some might complain of the lack of WiFi). In fact, the absence of that kind of multiplayer was one of my disappointments with NSMBDS.
Edit: Of course, this isn't to say that I absolutely won't get the game, but if I do, I likely won't enjoy it as much as everyone else will. In other words, the same situation as Galaxy 1. Me: I didn't like how exploration was axed Them: Fuck you it's better to style it like the old games that were better than the worse games! Your dumb.

Developers really need to get off this "returning to the roots!" mindset that's been so popular this generation. Far too many franchises have become boring and unexciting because of it.
I still hold the opinion that Super Mari0 Bros. is one of the worst in the series.

I'm not getting Galaxy 2 because I generally suck at the genre. I thought SMG was pretty challenging at times and since Galaxy 2 looks harder, I'm not going to spend precious money on it. I can live without this game so I suppose I'll accumulate money for the purpose of buying Pokémon White/Black and a Nintendo 3DS.

I don't have anything profound to say about this, but I thought I'd just add that I'm not getting it either.

Actually, I recall reading that the "sidescrolling 'classic' style levels" in SMG2 aren't actually playable, but are only used in a cinematic sequence of sorts or something in the beginning of the game.

The story.. is just ugh...
"Dear Mari0, Would you like to watch the stars with me whilst eating cake? Love, Peach"
Mari0: Well-a. I hope-a that "watching-a the stars" is another way of saying-a "have sex". But the cake-a... things-a don't fare well-a for me when-a cakes are involved. I'll-a go anyway for-a the sex!
*Giant Bowser appears*
Mari0: @%$#!!!!! MAMA MIA! EVERY SINGLE TIME-A!

As a symbol of how the game is "returning to Mari0's roots," exactly as the schedule for the new era of Mari0 games dictates!

Yeah, I'm all around losing confidence in the series. ...Only Intelligent Systems/Alphadream can save us now. Or if Miyamoto is eliminated in some way.

Miyamoto recognizes that Nintendo will have to retire him sometime. However, when looking at old manga artists who still work, Miyamoto is willing to work on video games until he dies, if that's possible for him.

Although I might actually get it eventually, I'm with you. The only thing good about the Mari0 series as it has progressed is the RPGs. Everything else is a rehash cash cow.
Miyamoto does everything his way, and that's the problem. He doesn't care that fans liked Rosalina's storybook, he's axed story. He doesn't care that nobody liked the trash minigame. Here is its triumphant return!
He needs to learn that change in industry is good, instead of hugging the nostalgia bear in the fetal position sucking his thumb.

Same goes for movies, and books obviously. That's one of the reasons I love RPGs.

The storybook didn't have anything to do with the actual plot, though. It was just there for character development, just saying.
